Why Wait for Revolutionary Love to Find You?
I have a kind of love-hate relationship with Valentine’s day or maybe I should call it mixed feelings instead. It’s been beautiful sometimes and not so beautiful at other times.
According to International Business Times, Valentine’s day can be a time for some people to celebrate love and for other people, it can be a difficult time which brings feelings of loneliness and depression. Suicide hotlines receive roughly 200 more phone calls on that day than other days. This is usually due to disappointments in relationships which could also be broken hearts or the feeling of not being loved.
Get Past the Road Blocks
How do we get past the road blocks in our minds telling us we are not loved? How do we get past this point to realize we are focusing so much on ourselves? There are over 7 billion people on Earth and so many people do not feel loved. Will you choose to stay in the feeling of being unloved or help someone else feel loved and special?
Last weekend after Valentine’s day, I went with a group of friends to a correctional facility for girls. We felt so fulfilled at the end of the day. In other words, we moved past ourselves and made someone else feel loved and special. The girls were so elated and in turn, we were happy we did this for them. We shared books with them and encouraged them to hope for a brighter future. We also taught them practical ways to meet their goals. We plan to go back there from time to time.
Give Love; Don’t Wait for It
Are you obsessing about yourself? Can you seem to not get out of your own way? Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best:
The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.
Will you get out of your own way today? Will you drop everything you are doing this minute, walk out now and give back to someone else? You don’t have to go to an orphanage home but give back in any way you can. Don’t care about how small it might seem; just focus on the good you can do for someone else. Give love instead of waiting for it to find you.
